Apple of His eye?

Psalm 17:6-8 NIV

"I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer. Show me the wonders of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes. Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings"

God's grace and order wins...

"God's grace and order wins...The victim's faint pulse picks up; the hearts of the hopeless pump red blood as you put your ear to their lips.  Orphans get parents, the homeless get homes."  Psalm 10:16-18 (The Message)

Andy and I read this last night and it just struck our hearts.  We just love the amazing grace of God!  We see it in action constantly in our own lives and we're seeing it in abundance here in Northern Ireland.  Every day we're hearing stories from the community of darkness to light transformation and of a people who love Jesus and who are bold enough to believe that God has called his people to make an eternal difference!

Literally stories of death to life!  Of broken to whole!  Of heads hung low to eyes raised up!  It's such a privilege to be in this environment, we really feel that we're learning stacks and continue to be so thankful!

We feel like we're starting to find a bit more of a rhythm to life and are figuring out better our roles and just enjoying taking time together as a family.  We really love learning together!  In some ways our Tuesday's at Encounter are a little like being back at Bible College together...although now our theological conversation is enhanced by Noah and Anna's input!  We love being able to watch, learn, see and then go away and study/think for ourselves and try to work through Biblical, theological and pastoral implications.

But we just have so much to be thankful for!  We're so thankful for fresh experiences of him, of deeper insight into his heart of compassion, and in seeing the way that he is working in and through people in this community - it's so exciting!

Andy preaching at the Tron Church in Glasgow!

A man called Brian

A few weeks ago as we were praying I had a real sense that I was going to meet a guy called brian. Since then this man in the middle is the third brian I have met. As it's 10 years since the Afgan war started he was putting crosses up with the names of every soldier who has died. All rather horrific. After chatting for a while I was able to give him my bible. My friend Roger and I were just praying about an opportunity to give life to somebody. I showed Brian John 10:10 and how Jesus wants to give life.

Pray that God would open the eyes and heart of Brian.

It's all very exciting following Jesus

Another week flies by!

Starting to feel like we're in a time speeding warp!  Another week has passed by here in Portstewart, another week filled with new experiences, new people, exciting opportunities, refreshment, encouragement and with a few challenges thrown in between, as we continue to settle here as a family.

Noah comes home nearly every day with a new very Northern Irish saying!  He's already experienced a few problems in misunderstanding his teacher at school, which he finds very funny!  He came out of class one day last week laughing while saying "You'll never guess what the teacher told us to do at snack time Mum!  She told us to get our breakfast out!  So I said to the teacher - no, you're being silly, it's snack time, not breakfast!"  And then I replied to him, "Are you sure she wasn't telling you to get your break out Noah?"  "No mummy, she definitely said braaake! (in his best Northern Irish accent!)"   We're just praising God in the way that he's settling in, he loves going to school and always is full of stories when we pick him up.

We're continuing to settle into a new 'rhythm' to life, trying to juggle family time, marriage time, personal devotional time and work time and just setting up clear boundaries around those.  We truly feel blessed by the flexibility we have as a family and the ability for Andy to occasionally take the kids for a couple of hours so Rho can do some more focussed work and for Rho to still have the majority of her time looking after the kids while Andy's out meeting folks and setting up new areas of ministry.  Andy's also started a spot of gardening locally fairly regularly to supplement our income.

We love being in Room Enough and on those days that we've found tougher (mostly due to kiddies not sleeping the night before!) we just hold tight to the reality that we feel we're in the right place for now and that God is moving, guiding, shaping and working in our lives in so many ways and many which we'll probably not realised until the years to come!

We read Psalm 1 together the other night and we both have been meditating on it since we read it...

"they delight in the law of the Lord,

meditating on it day and night.
They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
      bearing fruit each season"

We were especially blessed by the idea of the trees planted by the riverbank, gaining life and nourishment by the fresh water flowing near by and causing them to bear fruit not just in one season, but at all times.  We're continually reminded that we need to continually draw from God's well of life!  Without Him, we can do nothing!

Prayer

"Prayer is stressed over and over again in the New Testament as a vital pre-requisite for the release and experience of God's power".

Terry Virgo quotes Philip Hughes in his book 'The Spirit Filled Church'.

True worship

I'm reading Terry Virgo's latest book called 'The Spirit-Filled Church. He covers many things and is really helpful. I have just started chapter seven and came across this quote.

"True worship must involve our whole being. Mind, heart and will must harmonize to magnify His name."

I like that.

Leadership

We have both just read a great little book called "In the name of Jesus" by Henri Nouwen. It's well worth a read. Here is a quote from page 60. "One thing is clear to me: the temptation of power is greatest when intimacy is a threat. Much Christian leadership is exercised by people who do not know how to develop healthy, intimate relationships and have opted for power and control instead. Many Christian empire-builders have been people unable to give and receive love."

Sunshine, refreshment, hope, inspiration, laughter and destiny island!

We've had a great week two here on the causeway coast! Noah has enjoyed a holiday club at the vineyard church which was called destiny island. He's been there every morning and it's been amazing to see and hear him chatting and singing about Jesus! We're loving how more often when we're journalling he'll come join in and Some of the things he 'writes' about Jesus are amazing - out of the mouths of babes!!

Annas enjoyed a couple of mornings with our great friends Michael & june so we had a morning to read together in a coffee shop which was amazing!

We also had the privilege of joining in with the staff meeting here at vineyard on Wednesday. It was such a time of blessing and encouragement as we listened to the staff tell stories from their week which blew us away. A good number of folks amazingly healed, single mums who were asked to come forward on Sunday morning and the entire offering divided between them and also the churches heart and vision to focus on ministering to the widows (whether through bereavement, abandonment or whatever) in this community. It truly was an encouraging and inspiring time!

The weather has been amazing! We've been at the beach every day digging, paddling, body boarding, reading and surfing! So grateful to God for family time! And sunshine!

On the beach.

It's another end to a week. Friday at 6pm on the strand. Enjoying grace.

More than we could ever dare to ask or hope...

We arrived safe and sound in Portstewart on Monday night and were blown away that we got into the most fantastic house which we'll have for our entire 6 week stay. It's spacious, it's light, it has a great garden and to top it off we have sea views and can wander to the beach in less than 5 minutes! It all reminded us of Ephesians 3:20. It reminded us of God's amazing goodness. We're so thankful for this gift of a summer home and grateful to the folks here who so kindly kitted it out for us!

We've enjoyed our first few days bumping into some good friends, walking by the beach and reading. Today Rho has a kids party this morning while andy meets with the pastor of the vineyard church here. Next week Noah has a holiday club called destiny island.

Already God has blessed and encouraged us so much through his scripture and in reminders of things he's been whispering to us especially over this past year. It's such a privilege to have time to saturate ourselves in his word!

Yesterday andy read john 7:37-38, perhaps a well known scripture but such a refreshing reminder..."if you are thirsty, come to me! If you believe in me, come and drink! For the scriptures declare that rivers of living water flow out from within."

Ready (almost!), Set (nearly!), Go (this Monday!!)...

We've had a great couple of weeks spending time with friends and family, getting some odd jobs done around the house, enjoying time with the kids, taking time to cycle instead of using the car, enjoying time with each other and the occasional time of reading too!  Noah had his last day at nursery today, after yesterday's nursery graduation!  He's enjoyed two days of induction at Thursby Primary School where he'll start Reception come mid September.  We've also taken chances to actively seek out opportunities for work, even just on a temporary basis, in or around Carlisle once we return - but with most things being advertised online, we'll continue that search over the summer.

We head off on the ferry on Monday, leaving Carlisle that morning.  We're really excited and expectant for this time as a family to rest in our almighty Saviour, to take time to hear his amazing voice, to be refreshed and renewed by his Spirit and also just to have a lot of fun and make great memories alongside some great friends!

Last Day...First Day...Noah's Birthday!

Today is Noah's 4th Birthday!  Simply crazy to think that our little man, who's just not so little any more, is actually 4!  It was just over four years ago that we arrived in Carlisle, just before little Noah arrived.  After four years here in Carlisle we feel God calling us on to a new chapter, today marks the end of our season with Hebron and the beginning of the next adventure in Jesus!  We're so thankful to those at Hebron for their love, kindness and support not only in these past four years but over many years since meeting Andy as a lad!

Our plan so far is to head to the emerald isle mid July and head back to Cumbria for the wedding of two great cookies come the end of August.  Past then we're not sure what the future holds...but we're so so glad to be held in hands of the One who holds the future and just trusting and knowing that Jesus will lead and guide us!

We love this verse from Deuteronomy 5:27 - "Go near and listen to all that the Lord our God says."  For us this is almost our theme for the summer, to stop, reflect but most of all look forward as we draw nearer to Jesus.

Welcome!

Welcome to our little blog site!  We wanted to think of a way where we can keep our friends and family up to date with where we're at over the next few months especially and most importantly so that your prayers can be more specific as we seek God's heart on our future!  Thanks so much for tuning in!
